OpenAI model switched off after 1 year and 1 month
Released the same week as ChatGPT and overshadowed by it within days. Writers of 2022 remember it fondly, and with some alarm.
text-davinci-003, an OpenAI model that answered questions, wrote emails and was blamed for both, was switched off on January 4, 2024, aged 1 year and 1 month. Calls to its ID are now expected to fail.
It is survived by gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct, who is already doing the job.
