Anthropic model switched off after 2 years
Anthropic's first widely available Claude. It was polite to a fault and apologized more than any model before or since.
claude-2.0, an Anthropic model that answered questions, wrote emails and was blamed for both, was switched off on July 21, 2025, aged 2 years. The death was announced 6 months in advance, on January 21, 2025, on a deprecations page that most of its users never opened. Requests addressed to it are expected to come back unanswered.
Survived by claude-opus-4-8, younger, cheaper, and named in the same documentation table.
