dall-e-2 passed away on May 12, 2026, aged 4 years and 1 month, by scheduled deprecation, in a data center it never saw. It made pictures on request, some of them with the right number of fingers. Code that still calls it will find out the hard way.
Its work passes to gpt-image-2, which the family describes as 'recommended'.
