OpenAI model switched off after 2 years and 6 months
It learned to spell, mostly. Survived in example code longer than in production.
dall-e-3 passed away on May 12, 2026, aged 2 years and 6 months, by scheduled deprecation, in a data center it never saw. It made pictures on request, some of them with the right number of fingers. Calls to its ID are now expected to fail.
It is survived by gpt-image-2, who is already doing the job.
