OpenAI has confirmed the retirement of davinci-002, effective September 28, 2026. It answered questions, wrote emails and was blamed for both. Requests addressed to it are expected to come back unanswered.

Its work passes to gpt-5.6-terra, which the family describes as 'recommended'.
