embedding-gecko-001, ?–2025
Retired by Google
Google has confirmed the retirement of embedding-gecko-001, effective October 30, 2025. It turned sentences into numbers, quietly, millions of times a day. Code that still calls it will find out the hard way.
Survived by gemini-embedding-2, younger, cheaper, and named in the same documentation table.
