A small open model from Paris that proved you did not need to be enormous to be useful. Its weights are still out there, so in a sense it never died.
open-mistral-7b, a Mistral model that answered questions, wrote emails and was blamed for both, was switched off on March 30, 2025, aged 1 year and 6 months. Requests addressed to it are expected to come back unanswered.
It is survived by Ministral 3 8B, who is already doing the job.
