OpenAI model switched off after 3 years and 7 months
The one everybody wanted access to in March 2023, back when there was a waitlist for the future. It aged into the model people put in example code and forgot about.
gpt-4, an OpenAI model that answered questions, wrote emails and was blamed for both, was switched off on October 23, 2026, aged 3 years and 7 months. Requests addressed to it are expected to come back unanswered.
Its work passes to gpt-5.6-sol, which the family describes as 'recommended'.
